Willpower

Willpower can get you through a tough workout or help you finish a deadline—but it can’t heal trauma, burnout, or emotional pain. Most of the issues my clients bring—anxiety, people-pleasing, addiction, burnout—aren’t caused by laziness or weakness. They’re rooted in survival patterns and unconscious beliefs.

You can’t force your way out of something that’s living deep in your nervous system.

Lasting change doesn’t come from more effort. It comes from healing what’s underneath. And willpower isn’t designed for that.

Self Help

The self-help world often sells the idea that if you just learn enough, journal enough, or follow the next 5-step plan, things will change. But this mostly keeps people managing symptoms instead of addressing the cause.

Self-help usually stays in the mind—where it feels safe. But most of what’s keeping you stuck lives in the heart, the body, and the nervous system. That’s why all the knowledge in the world can’t shift a core belief like “I’m not enough” or “I have to hold everything together.”

About Steven

Steven Kent has spent over a decade helping people grow, heal, and find clarity in the areas of life that matter most. With a background in education, Steven has taught, mentored, and coached individuals from all walks of life—both in classrooms and one-on-one. He previously owned and operated a Mathnasium learning centre, and his work has consistently focused on supporting personal growth, emotional resilience, and healthier relationships.

Steven is a certified coach through Beyond Psychology and Counselling, a framework grounded in the transformative work of Dr. Alex Loyd. While it’s just one of the tools he uses, it reflects his core approach: going beyond surface-level fixes to address the deep-rooted emotional patterns and subconscious beliefs that drive stress, burnout, and self-sabotage.

He works with clients virtually across Canada and beyond, and occasionally in person for those nearby.

When not helping people uncover and address the deeper issues impacting their lives, Steven enjoys thoughtful conversations, good books, the occasional dad joke, and time in nature.
